Fail-over testing scenario of Bright Mail Gateway – SMG

Description

A load balance may also be able to detect a device failure and route to another device.Recommends keeping a current backup of the Control Center box to minimize any Control Center downtime in case of a disaster. The Scanners would continue to scan and process mail while the control center is down.

Failover testing of control center and scanner. Here we gave some option of failover testing scenarios and what will be impact of mail flow of Emails. We will testing in our Organization layout on VM.

Environment:

This procedure works fine in the Messaging Gateway 10.6.x

Step to Follow:

Here we mention the Fail-over testing option.

Option 1 : If SMG control center down then what will be the impact on production environment and mail flow of Email.

  • Go to the Console Login
  • Go to the Administrator > Host > Shutdown.
  • Select a host to reboot or shut down > select control center and shutdown.Failover_1

Impact on Mail Flow……

  • Mail flow will be continues as it is.
  • There is no performance impact on scanner of mail flow.
  • Admin cannot manage control center console.
  • Admin cannot create new policy in control center.
  • Created policy will work as configured.
  • Quarantined mail will be fall in scanner massage queue.
  • Quarantined mail notification will be trigger as configured.
  • Admin can released mail after control center live.

 

Option 2 : If scanner 1 down then what will be the impact on production environment and mail flow of Email.

  • Go to the Console Login
  • Go to the Administrator > Host > Shutdown.
  • Select a host to reboot or shut down > select Scanner 1 (Hosted name as it) and shutdown.

Impact on Mail Flow……

  • Mail flow will be continues from Scanner-2 as its.
  • Performance might be increase usage CPU, memory, etc.. of Scanner-2
  • Admin cannot communication with Scanner-1 due to Scanner-1 agent service was down.
  • Admin can create new policy in control center.
  • Created policy will work as configured.
  • Quarantined mail notification will be trigger as configured.
  • Admin can released mail from control center console.

Option 3 : If scanner 2 down then what will be the impact on production environment and mail flow of Email.

  • Go to the Console Login
  • Go to the Administrator > Host > Shutdown.
  • Select a host to reboot or shut down > select Scanner 2 (Hosted name as it) and shutdown.
